Four years ago, Senegal’s Ministry of Education (MoE) formed a partnership with Microsoft that would play a significant role in the country’s ability to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The partnership took place despite significant challenges: the country has a geographically dispersed educational system and schools are often far away from other institutions, forcing some students to travel great distances to attend classes. Until recently, the lack of a unified curriculum and technology platform to support learning often meant that different schools produced very different learning outcomes for students.
